A New Perspective

Today I would love to share more but I'm getting ready for a film shoot. As much as I understand and agree with the quote below I can't say that I always follow the advice . Sometimes I am so set in my ways that I can not even see that there is another way of doing something until long after I've already completed it. May this quote inspire you to push through your perceived limitations and apply creativity to all that you do today. Cheers!

Color Inside the Lines Quote

Every Moment is Precious

I have a little bit of an obsession with going into my garden and looking at all of the small and miraculous changes that are taking place. Today I found this Dahlia just getting ready to bloom, tomorrow it will be a full flower. So beautiful isn't it to see something the moment before it blooms? Pay attention to each moment in your life. Each moment is precious and has beauty and lessons that can be found in it.

I'm a Proud Owner of Blooming Orchid

This is the first time I have owned an orchid that successfully re-bloomed. I waited patiently for one year and took care of the plant with no blooms and suddenly voila! I'm extremely proud, I don't attribute the plants success entirely to me, I know there is a source much larger then me at work here but it feels good to know I played a part in helping this little plant along.

That's it, that's all I've got right now. Just wanted to share my excitement with you all today. What are you excited about today?

Your Actions Today Create Your Tomorrow

Today I went out in my garden to find a bunch of daffodils blooming unexpectedly in one area of my yard. I was so excited, they are one of my favorite flowers and I've always dreamed of having an area of my yard filled with daffodils. For a moment I thought it was just by chance that the flowers had decided to make my yard their home. Then I remembered that a couple of years ago I came across some daffodil bulbs and on a whim I planted a bunch of them in the ground. Then I forgot. Last year I vaguely remember getting two or three small flowers and being somewhat disappointed, then I forgot about them again. This year, the plants have expanded and filled a full area with blooms which bring a smile to my face every time I pass them.

It struck me how the seemingly insignificant action of planting some bulbs in the ground a couple of years ago could bring me so much joy today. I was reminded that we all have the opportunity to create our future with the little actions we take every day. The difference is that unlike the clear and obvious outcome of ending up with a gorgeous bed of daffodils, we can't always see the direct connection of our past actions to our current situation. But they are deeply connected. Sometimes you may notice the connection, many times you will not.

There are countless actions and interactions you will make today that will seem meaningless or go by barely noticed, that will have a great impact on your future. They are the catalyst for what you create in your life, even when you don't realize it. So today, tomorrow and moving forward walk with your head held high and try to remember that with every choice and action, you are creating your future. With every action you take do your best to choose to create from a loving place. Trust that the more often you choose to create with love, the more love you will see in your future.

Have you ever connected a past action to a positive outcome years later and if so, what did you learn from it?

Valentine's Day, Love It or Hate It? You Choose.

Valentine's Day is often polarizing. Some feel it is a day of love. Others think it's a "Hallmark" holiday, perpetuated by the greeting card, candy and flower industries to sell products. Lastly, there are those who insist it's a day of loneliness for everyone who is not in a romantic love relationship. I think it all depends on how you choose to look at it.

I personally love Valentines Day. I've celebrated the day in many ways throughout the years. Some with romantic partners, others on my own. I can't really say any of them were better than the other. I can say that I had a wonderful time celebrating and enjoying the day year after year in whatever way I chose.

Personally, I like to have an excuse to make a day feel extraordinary and to celebrate. I love the excitement in the pit of my stomach, just like when I was a kid, when Valentine cards were passed out in class. I love embracing the idea that a day is different, special, extraordinary, simply because it brings about excitement.

I know it would seem wonderful if every day felt extraordinary (I think in some ways it can...but I'll save that for a different post) but often day-to-day life brings about monotony. We need to be able to break up the patterns of everyday life with positive new experiences or days that are special. It's an act of self love to make your day feel special. It does not need to be special because you got a box of chocolates or you are "in love". It's special because you decide it is. When you love yourself, you choose to create and embrace a day as extraordinary because you can. So allow today to be a day where you feel extraordinary, simply because you love you and you can create a great day.

This reminds me of a post I did a while back about being your own best friend, so I've included it below along with a brief exercise on loving and support yourself.

Be Your Own Best Friend
We all need to lean on others at times but when you need encouragement or are in a position where others can not understand your vision, you need to be able to be the friend and cheerleader that you need to make your dreams come true. Be confident and believe in yourself no matter what others think. If you love yourself, you can be your own best friend. What does it mean to be your own best friend? You give yourself the love, support and encouragement you need to accomplish your goals because you know it can happen. If you are waiting for others to approve of your actions or encourage you to follow your dreams, it’s time to reevaluate. Here is a quick exercise to help you practice giving yourself support:

1. Write a list of your current fears or obstacles, get whatever is bothering you off of your chest. Some examples:
I don’t know what I want to do.
I’m not smart enough.
I don’t have the resources to reach my goal.

2. Take a look at your list as if it’s a list your best friend provided you and asked for your advice/support.  Next to each fear or obstacle write out a reply as if you are speaking to your best friend. Be encouraging and provide support to get them through their fears and doubts.

3. Read over your responses and trust the wise advice you have provided yourself.

If you have other tips on how to support and encourage yourself, please share them in the comments.

Create the life you want

You create your life, do not forget this. Anytime fear arises because your life is not going the way that you want, remember that you are in charge.

You create your life, no matter what situation you are in or where you are at in your life, you and only you have the power to change it.
